Restore the Function and Brilliance of Your Smile with Natural-looking Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are versatile restorative dental treatments used by dentists to restore the appearance and function of teeth. At Canyon Crossing Dental in Ivins, Utah, Dr. Susan Baker uses porcelain crowns to repair damaged teeth, replace missing teeth, and cosmetically improve severely blemished teeth. Our porcelain crowns are expertly designed to look and feel like your natural teeth, if not better. They are also durable and stain-resistant, providing a fantastic value for your investment.

The process of getting a crown

We consider several factors to determine your candidacy for a crown. These include the state of your oral health, the extent of tooth damage, and your dental needs. A dental crown has many cosmetic and functional uses, but you must have a healthy tooth structure to support your crown.

Whether you are receiving a crown for aesthetic or restorative purposes, these are the steps involved:

  • Tooth preparation: After numbing your mouth with anesthesia, we carefully shave the enamel around the tooth. This step is necessary to create room for your crown; otherwise, it may look or feel unnatural. Sometimes, you may not have significant tooth structure remaining, but we can rebuild your tooth structure with a filling material to create enough support for your crown
  • Fabricating your crown: Once your tooth is ready, we take impressions of your teeth that act as a reference when fabricating your restoration. Our partner dental lab creates your crown with the exact measurements and color of your tooth to create a perfect-fitting restoration. Your crown requires two to three weeks to be ready, so we’ll temporarily restore the prepped tooth until you receive your permanent restoration
  • Crown placement: Once we receive your permanent crown, we will promptly notify you to arrange an appointment for its placement. Our team will meticulously examine the crown during this scheduled visit to ensure it fits flawlessly and appears natural. If it meets our standards, we’ll securely bond it to your tooth using dental cement

Our dental crowns are made from durable and resilient materials that can last over 15 years with proper care. Besides, porcelain crowns are stain-resistant, giving you many years of a radiant-looking smile despite your love for coffee and wine!

Taking care of a dental crown

We have seen many patients with dental crowns that look brand new even after 10-plus years. Your dental crown can also last as long, but you must take good care of it.

Consider the tips below to take care of your crown.

  • Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Floss at least once daily
  • Avoid using your teeth to open packages or biting on hard foods and substances.
  • Adhere to bi-annual dental appointments
  • Wear a mouthguard if you chronically grind teeth or participate in contact sports
  • Keep off tobacco products

While crowns are long-lasting, they don’t last forever. Don’t hesitate to notify your dentist when you notice signs of wear and tear on your crown. Your crown should be replaced immediately when due to continue protecting the tooth underneath.
